Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the Gradient family, specifically our technical team?

A while ago, we posted a blog that was all about a day in the life of Eva, our Senior Consultant. This time, we’re going bigger and looking at a day in the life of our technical team!

Who is part of our technical team?

First things first, we better do some introductions. You’ll already know a bit about Mark, as we’ve shared more about him here. What about our other two technical team members, Paul and Jon?

Well, we don’t want to give away all their secrets, because they’re going to be part of our meet the team series too! But for now, Jon is our custom assembly expert, and Paul is definitely all about personalisations and modifications. All three of our team have a lot of experience which covers a wide range of disciplines, more than we can cover in just one blog – we can feel a series coming on here!

So, what do our three technical team members get up to?

Help Desk

First thing in the morning, all our team checks the Help Desk to see if any tickets have come in that need their skillset. If there is anything, then the right consultant will pick up the ticket and start working on it. It might be that some of these tickets need extra support from Infor’s support desk. If that is the case, then our consultant will liaise with them and keep the client updated.

If there are any existing tickets that they are working on, then they’ll review these too to see if there are any updates that need their attention.

We offer this service to all our clients, but if you’ve not worked with us before, you’re more than welcome to get in touch to see how we could help you too.

Client work

All of our consultants have time allocated to work on projects for clients, the tech team is no different. So, on any given day you can see that they will have time blocked out to specific projects, of course dependent on their skill set.

Some of these tech projects can be relatively quick to action, such as a form change for example. Others can be much larger and may involve working with several different people from different teams, or even companies, to get the result that the client needs. For example, Mark has been working on something recently which involved working across time zones and delving deep into the depths of cloud operations. That’s not really that unusual if you’re a tech consultant. All three of our team are often found getting stuck into something complex.

A good example of this is what Paul is currently working on. He has been working closely with Eva, our lead consultant, on a project to customise one of our client’s invoicing processes to ensure they comply with some new legislation. As the work involves many meetings with Spanish stakeholders (often in Spanish!) as well as functional and technical requirements and a tight deadline, the full strength of the team is being called on for this one!

There are of course, other aspects to client work too, such as creating new widgets or workspaces in Infor OS, creating new dataviews for specific client requirements and of course anything to do with Infor OS – from training teams to creating new workflows etc.

At this point, we think it’s fair to say that we offer a full spectrum of technical services which are related to not only Infor SyteLine and Infor OS, but also other associated products such as Microsoft Power BI for example!

Personal development time

If you’re a tech person, then you know that there is often a lot to keep up to date with! Not only do you have to keep up to date with the ‘technical’ aspects of the product that you support, but you also have to keep up with the associated technologies that wrap around the software. That can feel like a lot, so all our team, including the tech team have time in their diaries to keep up to date with the latest developments around Cloudsuite Industrial (and more). Where this really comes into play is when we have a client get in touch with complex requirements. It may be that they are using Cloudsuite Industrial, but want to integrate other products which sit outside the Infor suite, which means an all-round knowledge is essential for all the technical team.

External events

If the technical team has any spare time left in their day, we also ask them to attend external events. If you’ve been to the SyteLine User Group Conference over the last few years, then no doubt you will have seen Mark there before. We always make sure that one of the technical team is there, as it’s a great place to meet up with clients and ask the burning questions!

This year we asked Jon to go over to Amsterdam to visit the Infor Velocity Summit. Jon attended a few of the presentations which were talking about how Artificial Intelligence is being used within the Infor suite of products. He also had a chance to network with some of the attendees too.

We hope this has given you an insight into some of what our technical team looks at across their working week. This is only scratching the surface, because they do so much more than this! However, if this has got you thinking about working with us on some technical project, please get in touch! We would love to hear from you.
